Catalysts for Climate
In 2022, a group of seasoned climate action innovators within the Catalyst 2030 network responded to the IPCC's call for a significant reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions. The Catalysts for Climate group, now known as the South x South Alliance for Equitable Green Development, aims to position social innovators from the Global South as key players in climate change policy and funding. Their 2022 report, "Local Solutions from the Global South," showcases scalable innovations in healthcare, agriculture, food security, circular economies, and housing. Supported by a Rockefeller Foundation grant, the group convened in Bellagio, Italy, in November 2023 to develop strategies for inclusion in funding corridors and representation in policy discussions. They officially launched their strategy at COP28 in December 2023, advocating for a social innovation pillar at COP and collaboration with the World Bank on a social innovation and civil society framework. This framework, introduced at the 2024 Spring Meetings, integrates grassroots solutions from the Global South with the World Bank's resources. The Alliance also collaborates with the Climate Champions team to increase the visibility of social innovators in key policy discussions. During Catalysing Change Week 2024, they initiated dialogue with the World Bank and the Climate Champions team, advocating for the inclusion of local solutions and social innovators as co-creators of change, not mere beneficiaries.
