Advancing Women’s Empowerment in Food, Agriculture & the larger Maker Economy

10 May 2024 | 15:00 - 16:00
Problem-Solving Sessions / Thematic Workshops

This session will focus on the profound impact of women’s empowerment within the realms of agricultural participation and roles in the food processing sector. Firstly, we will explore how providing stable market access to women farmers influences economic empowerment and shapes gender dynamics. Delving into the multifaceted impacts, we will not only scrutinize the positive influence on health outcomes but also examine the transformative effects on family structures and social dynamics as women actively contribute to their communities. Secondly, we will closely examine the consequences of gender bias within the food processing sector, shedding light on the limitations it imposes on women and their economic participation. Adopting a gender and development lens, this session also aims to foster a nuanced understanding of the challenges and opportunities inherent in empowering women across various sectors, while also addressing the persistent gaps in protection and empowerment that still require attention.
