Intelligence in children is a very attractive quality. It is responsible for thinking, meaning, creativity imaginations and logic. Unhindered, It's sets the pace for how far a child will go in life. The sole mission of Active Minds 2.0 is to create an enabling environment that encourages students of the Yola Model Secondary school, YMSS, Yola town Adamawa State, Nigeria to explore their intelligence through logic and creativity and to balance an already stellar academic life with an equally stellar extracurricular life. It’s vision is to develop the next set of highly skilled and highly motivated social entrepreneurs in northeast Nigeria According to the UNESCO, Nigeria currenlty has the highest number of out of school children with about 20 million out of school children. This presents not just a social and economic problem, but a security challenge as well. No fewer than 650 schools have remained shut in some troubled states owing to attacks by terrorists in different parts of the country. Our host community, Adamama state has almost one million children from this figure alone. In fact, Adamawa state is one of the three states in Nigeria recently thrown under a state of emergency due to the Boko Haram Insurgency. The Yola Model Active Minds Play and Learn Initiative, a core initiative of the Active Minds club aims to solve this problem by teaching other kids within our host community who are unable to afford an education, basic literacy skills, an attempt by student-club members to contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal number 4 of Ensuring and promoting inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all by 2030".
