Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator (CCSA)

The Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator (CCSA) is dedicated to advancing critical initiatives aimed at establishing a Climate-Smart Zone across the Caribbean region. Our primary focus lies in fostering resilience, promoting social development, and fostering broad-based economic growth, particularly for the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) of the Caribbean. Through heightened awareness and strategic assistance, we aim to bolster the resilience of these vulnerable nations. At the core of our mission is the transformation of the Caribbean economy, achieved through the expedited implementation of both public and private investments that champion climate action and sustainable development. Collaborating with twenty-seven Caribbean Governments, alongside major global corporations, financial institutions, and foundations, the Accelerator aspires to position the Caribbean as a global exemplar of climate-smart development. Our Objectives: Develop a comprehensive roadmap delineating key milestones, costs, implications, and timelines essential for swift progress towards our envisioned state. Propel the region towards generating 90% of its electricity from renewable sources and achieving full electrification of the transport sector by 2035. Establish measures to safeguard 30% of the region's ocean and land by 2030. Fortify the region's economic resilience against external shocks by fostering climate action as a burgeoning economic sector. Our Approach: Facilitate collaboration and leverage economies of scale to enhance project viability and attract resources and best practices. Establish and manage blended financial facilities to unlock new capital sources and augment funding for climate initiatives throughout the Caribbean. Champion innovation to tackle complex challenges, collaborating with technology developers and other accelerators. Foster private sector engagement through cross-sector partnerships, empowering national governments to concentrate on policy formulation. Pillars of the Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator: Climate-Smart Map: A strategic roadmap outlining milestones, costs, implications, and timelines crucial for rapid progress towards our objectives. 90% Renewable Energy for All: A transformative pathway to achieve 90% renewable electricity generation and full electrification of transportation by 2035. Protecting 30% of Ocean and Land: Establishment of a robust governance framework and securing necessary investments to preserve 30% of Caribbean land and water by 2030. 1.5% Green Jobs: Strengthening economic resilience by catalyzing climate action as a prominent economic sector, thus creating green job opportunities across the region.
