Elimu Yetu Development Organization

Elimu Yetu offers free education for children youth and adults in Arusha, Tanzania, including preschool and afterschool education for children, short courses and volunteer opportunities for youth and adults, community events and a public library. For children we provide nutritional support in the form of free breakfast and lunch, academic tutoring with a focus on basic literacy, numeracy and reading culture, and extracurricular programs including sports and games, as well as the arts and languages (English, Swahili, French and Sign Language). We offer free defluoridated drinking water to the surrounding community. We also offer occasional public health education on topical issues like early childhood nutrition, maternal health, infectious disease prevention, and blood pressure management. For youth and adults, we offer short certificate programs in technology and vocational studies. With youth, we focus on leadership mentoring, life skills training, public speaking and career counseling. We emphasize STEM education including graphics, robotics, electrical engineering and computer hardware maintenance. We also offer short courses in natural and cultural tourism (including classification), cooking, and hospitality, as well as hands on skills like sewing, cosmetology and electrical work. With these programs, we also seek to provide fieldwork and apprenticeship opportunities. Additionally we offer programs and clubs for youth in the arts including fine art, acting and filmmaking, modern and traditional dance, as well as chess, netball, football/soccer, tennis and pickleball. We also organize, host and sponsor community events including amateur sports competitions, intergenerational dialogue and cultural heritage, parenting seminars, and career networking events. Additionally we have a public library, online library and public newspaper reading station. All of our programs are offered 100% free to the community in Kijenge, Arusha, Tanzania.
