Equality for Growth (EfG)
Equality for Growth operates through our model, "Voices for Visibility, Rights, and Livelihood," which mobilizes a transformative movement of informal women market traders at the community level. We aim to scale our model and build a robust movement of informal women traders that will influence local and national government frameworks to achieve gender equality in markets.
Our model addresses the inequalities faced by market traders and empowers them to pursue livelihoods free from harassment and abuse. We take a holistic approach by working with women traders to develop their leadership skills, enabling them to take on decision-making roles in markets. We provide women with skills, inspiration, role models, and root cause analysis, connecting their everyday problems to deeper oppressions. We offer ongoing support and mentoring in these areas. Additionally, we emphasize the creation of institutions to ensure community (market) level support and sustainability of the new mindsets we seek to inculcate. Simultaneously, we support women in improving the management of their businesses and diversifying their products, thereby increasing their economic power and directly addressing their personal aspirations.
EfG aim to promote gender equality in resource access by ensuring that women and men have equal opportunities to own, manage, and utilize land and other productive resources. This will lead to enhanced livelihoods through fair and equitable resource distribution. Additionally, we strive to influence and shape socio-economic policies and practices that foster equal gender relations, resulting in inclusive and sustainable development benefiting all genders.
We are dedicated to enabling women in the informal sector to access justice by offering legal aid services. This empowerment allows women to defend their rights and secure their livelihoods. Furthermore, we are committed to raising public awareness about the rights of informal sector workers, which will increase recognition and support for their contributions and rights.
Our mission also includes encouraging and assisting vulnerable and marginalized women in forming groups and networks and providing them with entrepreneurship skills. This support will empower women to establish and grow their businesses, leading to economic independence. Conducting research to inform our policy engagements, advocacy efforts, and organizational development is another key aspect of our mission. This data-driven approach will help us effectively address gender inequalities and promote development.
Equality for Growth also works to expose women to new marketing opportunities, including leveraging digital technology. By doing so, we will enhance business growth and competitiveness through access to broader markets and modern marketing tools.
