Green Scene Energy PLC (GSE)

Green Scene Energy PLC (GSE) is a company incorporated in 2016 to supply affordable, high quality solar energy products within Ethiopia by Rekik Bekele. GSE has established partnerships with retailers as agents, micro finance institutions, Ethio Telecom and recently a larger farmer network under the name PurPose Black Ethiopia to distribute solar lighting and productive use (irrigation) products using pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) model. The company also operates a business line for the installation of larger solar solutions, including mini grids together with a foreign technology partner. The company has operations in Addis, Oromia, Amhara, SNNPR, Afar and Somali regions in Ethiopia. Given the significant off-grid opportunities in Ethiopia, GSE started with supplying lighting and SHS products, however, to tap into the other verticals and opportunities presented by the lack of major players in Ethiopia and readily available products in the market, the company also successfully ventured into productive use of energy segment supplying solar water pumps as well as power backup systems and EPC consulting. By the end of 2022, GSE has sold over 9,000 Solar Home Systems (SHS) as well as 85 solar water pumps and has secured a tender for installation of 6 mini grids with a total capacity of 690kW together with international supply partners.
