Him Village ePrahari
About Him Village ePrahari Foundation
Him Village Eprahari Foundation is a non-governmental organization based in Uttarakhand, India, working to protect the fragile Himalayan ecosystem through community-driven environmental action, sustainable waste management, and youth leadership. Founded in 2024, the foundation emerged from a deep concern over the growing climate crisis, forest degradation, and unmanaged waste in Himalayan villages.
In many mountain communities, people are left with only two harmful waste disposal options — burning waste or dumping it into forests and rivers, both of which harm wildlife, pollute rivers like the Ganga, and threaten human health. Him Village ePrahari Foundation provides a third, sustainable option - the Zero Waste Village Initiative Model, which turns waste into a resource through segregation, recycling, and community awareness.
The foundation began its journey in Ganga Bhogpur Malla, a village near the Rajaji Tiger Reserve, where it worked with over 90 families, schools, and ashrams to stop waste burning and dumping. Through door-to-door collection, mini MRF (Material Recovery Facility) setup, and awareness campaigns, the team successfully managed over 5,000 kg of waste, transforming Ganga Bhogpur into a model zero-waste Himalayan village.
Beyond waste management, the organization engages with schools, youth, and women’s groups through programs like “Him Saathi” and “Little Him Saathi”, which empower young environmental leaders to advocate for climate action, promote sustainable living, and protect their local ecosystems. Mission
Empower Himalayan local communities by promoting environmental awareness, implement zero-waste practices aligned to the values, beliefs and traditions of the Garhwal belt.
Vision
To create a network of zero-waste Himalayan villages that serve as models of sustainability, where waste is treated as a resource, nature is respected, and every citizen takes responsibility for protecting the Himalayas and the rivers that flow from them. Core Work
• Implementing Zero Waste Village Initiative Models in forest-edge Himalayan villages.
• Partnering with schools, ashrams, and gram panchayats to build sustainable waste management systems.
• Conducting awareness campaigns to reduce plastic use and encourage behavioral change.
• Promoting waste-to-wealth programs and circular economy practices.
• Training youth and volunteers to become environmental leaders and climate advocates. Impact & Future Goals
In just one year, Him Village Eprahari Foundation has diverted thousands of kilograms of waste from forests and rivers, prevented open dumping, and inspired local communities to adopt sustainable lifestyles.
Over the next two years, the foundation aims to:
• Expand the Zero Waste Model to 10-gram panchayats in Uttarakhand.
• Train 1,000 “Him Saathi” youth volunteers as climate leaders.
• Develop sustainable systems linking rural waste management with recycling industries.
Through this mission, Him Village Eprahari Foundation envisions a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Himalayan region - for nature, for people, and for generations to come.
