Independent (Rana Almuraqab)
Academically, I have a Master's in Sustainability Leadership from the Global Futures Department at Arizona State University (USA) and a second master’s in international Cooperation’s and Humanitarian Aid (Spain). I have a bachelor’s degree in international business management (Lebanon) from the Lebanese International University and an exchange Masters semester from the Lebanese American University in Interdisciplinary Gender Studies. Currently I work and represent Save the Children International as the Environmental & Social Safeguarding Coordinator under the World Bank IDA and GPE project. I also volunteer as a Membership Manager at the Global Waste Cleaning Network and was a volunteer as Partnership Manager in the Arab Youth Sustainable Development Network. I have over two years of responsible experience in environmental management, both locally and internationally. I've undertaken responsibilities, including conducting environmental assessments (EIA), categorizing risks based on the ESMF, and proposing mitigation measures. I've participated in regular inspections of compliance issues and maintained records of environmental issues and actions taken. I’ve collaborated with relevant stakeholders to advise on environmental issues, produce action plans, and draft reports on environmental performance. I've contributed to policy implementation, working with GWCN and AYSDN by drafting guidance for environmental management and coordinating the annual development of Environmental Action Planning and Performance in parallel with the SDGs. Previously working as the BHA Officer in Save the Children under the Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance office project, I have had close interconnections with the Health and Nutrition, Food Assistance, Water, Hygiene and Sanitation sector, and Child Protection sectors where I was mostly integrated in supporting those functions from the proposal development and project implementation, to the monitoring and evaluation of the whole project such as quality check, data collection and reporting. Moreover, under WASH, I’ve blended engineering principles with environmental management practices. I have worked on preparing the Environmental Action Plan, Environmental Management plan, and Risk Management Plan under the project. For instance, I've applied engineering knowledge to conduct thorough environmental assessments, including analyzing the impact of project activities on ecosystems and communities to measure sustainability of the activities.
