initiative for Climate Action

The Initiative for Climate Action (ICA) is a growing community of 50+ members from across India (from diverse disciplinary backgrounds and experiences including lawyers, policy experts, urban planners, filmmakers, artists, etc.). The founders of ICA were motivated to start the organisation due to a shared frustration around the slow progress towards effective responses to climate change in the complex socio-economic and political context of India. We realised the need for a pioneering organisation that embraced a systemic view, that connected the different progressive efforts that were working in isolation, and that played a leadership role in articulating new visions and imaginations for climate action in India, South Asia, and the world - in ways that were consonant with equity and justice, indigenous worldviews, wellbeing and regenerative culture, and complexity science. We see ourselves as a community of collaborators, orchestrators, enablers, dreamers, doers and everything else it takes to build a better world for all. Our current activities fall within three programmatic focus areas including cities and urban resilience; law, policy, governance and climate justice; and climate education.
