Keiyo Women Trust(KWT)

we are an indigenous women-led organization, KWT champions the rights of women and girls among indigenous communities through strengthening and supporting their capacity and agency to influence policies, decision making processes, and address harmful cultural practices while promoting positive culture and democracy We focus on addressing structural barriers that prevent or limit women and girls’ exercise of their economic rights as well as to challenge social norms that continue to undermine their role and stifle their potential to thrive. we target the following systems 1. Education system: Access to education is critical for empowering girls and promoting gender equality. The education system ensure that indigenous girls have equal access to education, including early childhood education and vocational training. This helps to break the cycle of poverty and promote economic empowerment. 2. Healthcare system: Indigenous girls often face significant health challenges due to factors such as poverty, lack of access to healthcare, and discrimination. Improving the healthcare system ensure that girls have access to culturally sensitive and appropriate healthcare services. This include providing access to family planning and reproductive health services, as well as addressing the root causes of health disparities. 3. Legal system: Discriminatory laws and practices limit the rights of indigenous girls and women. Reforming the legal system can help address these issues, including addressing land ownership, inheritance, and access to justice. 4. Economic system: Economic opportunities are often limited for indigenous girls due to factors such as discrimination and lack of access to credit and business development support. Improving the economic system can promote economic empowerment and help address poverty. 5. Social system: Indigenous girls often face social isolation and discrimination. Creating supportive networks and safe spaces for girls to come together and share their experiences can help combat isolation, improve mental health, and promote social cohesion. our approach is unique because we are target the indigenous women and girls at the grassroot level by Promoting traditional skills and knowledge, addressing systemic issues, Promoting leadership and representation, Building strong social networks and Empowerment through education both formal and informal.
