TORAJAMELO
TORAJAMELO is an ethical-slow-lifestyle brand that works with 100% backstrap loom weavers from Indigenous rural communities of Indonesia. We collaborate with around 1200+ women weavers in Toraja and Mamasa in Sulawesi Island; Soe, Maubesi, and Oesena in Timor Island (Nusa Tenggara Timur). We offer them market access sustainably yy uying their weaving and converting it to apparel, accessories, corporate gifts. Our usiness model is focussed on B2B, B2C and we access markets online and offline.
AHANA by TORAJAMELO is a new mission towards sustainaility. It is our new multi-brand showcase where we offer work with artisanal brands, individual entrepreneus, non-profits and offer them access via AHANA platform. We are operating at the intersectionality of cultural, environmental, and social sustainability. Our focus is to work as a collective that looks at sustainable commerce development while preserving culture and minimizing negative impact to the environment due to production processes.
TORAJAMELO identified that women in rural areas of Toraja had no choice but to emigrate to other more developed countries such as Singapore and Malaysia, making them more prone to abuse and human right violations. These women who were once the core of their families and even their communities are removed from these settings. This creates a vicious cycle of dysfunctional families which effects are prevalent throughout generations. On top of this, TORAJAMELO is creating a decentralised rural economy and through AHANA a sub-company of TORAJAMELO, work is being done in regenerative agriculture which allows these communities to make ways for new income opportunity.
