VSDET- Vizhuthugal Social Education and Development Trust

The foundation of Vizhuthugal was laid 31 years ago, by students belonging to the Arunthathiyar community. The seed was laid by the vulnerable, and for the vulnerable. Ever since its inception, Vizhuthugal has been actively operating for the marginalized sections of the society; focusing majorly upon manual scavengers, sanitation workers, but encompassing as well the vulnerable women, children, migrant workers, and the textile and garment industry workers. The vision has always been to create a society where marginalized communities, and especially the women in those communities, are empowered and mainstreamed. And this vision is invariably facilitated by our mission of providing training, livelihood opportunities, and continuous advocacy, thereby bringing these disadvantaged people into the mainstream. Vizhuthugal started with few volunteers 3 decades ago, and today, the organization has expanded with 12 full-time staff, 20 part-time staff, and 200+ volunteers. The projects span across 3 districts, 15 blocks and 450 villages, with at least 4,670 direct beneficiaries.
