Many Philanthropic or Donor organizations work with many diverse organisations addressing issues of social justice, gender, human rights and inequalities. They are made up of practitioners and experts in their fields, working to improve the lives of millions of people, helping them thrive. These organisations do thoughtful, important, rigorous work that changes lives. But, sometimes, they don’t make as much difference as they could because they don’t get their message across effectively. How they communicate lets them down.
This has a direct effect on the long-term viability of their projects, the sustainability of their organisations and their impact on the communities they serve.
At Well Made Strategy, we help social enterprise and social justice organisations achieve their goals faster and more effectively by using good communications. We take it as read that your partners are good at their core roles then help them go further by working with them to get their point across - at scale for maximum impact.
Through strategy projects, ongoing advice and learning programmes, our Kenya-based team helps partners set their direction and see their plans through, building momentum and confidence in the way they communicate. We equip teams and networks to communicate effectively for themselves, and ultimately help them make a bigger difference in the world.
Eighty percent of our team is female – and we are a team – members of which offer youth, wisdom, tech-savvy, editing ability, pedagogy skills, speaking aptitude or policy know-how as each assignment demands. Our skills and approach allow us to identify communications assets and needs, design strategy and support implementation, both by providing relevant training and by helping our partners implement.
With our partners, we place goals and objectives in a strategic planning framework and then systematically identify key audiences, scope contexts, analyse motivations and inhibitions - and only then design communications activities tightly focused on driving measurable changes among clear, priority audiences. This ever-evolving methodology has proved highly effective with partners across the continent over the last ten years.
We already work with many Organizations, partners and funders, helping them craft narratives and tell better stories about their work. We would like to provide partners with the support they need to maximise their impact, as we have recently with IPPF, the CIFF-funded Kenya Communications Hub on SRHR, the UK FCDO funded FSD communications network and the Wellspring-funded Regional Education Learning Initiative.
We provide sustainable strategic communications guidance that helps our partners talk with clarity and conviction about their work and increase their impact. We do not do it for them. Instead, we help organisations harness the power of good communications to change policy, build will for social reforms, nudge entire communities towards new norms and influence key individuals by promoting the power and importance of good communications to maximise success and create impact at scale. We make communications work.
