Glocal Experience discusses Amazon preservation
Indigenous leaders and experts from different fields met to discuss challenges and solutions for preserving the Amazon at the Glocal Experience in Manaus at the end of August.
Catalyst 2030 Brazil Chapter coordinated the ‘EscutAmazônia’ space at the Glocal Experience for the discussions. The Brazil Chapter is drafting a proposal with recommendations to guarantee the socio-economic sustainability of the Amazon region and its inhabitants, based on the debates and lectures held at the EscutAmazônia. The proposal will link recommendations to the SDGs.

Latin America drives sustainability
Catalyst 2030 LATAM Chapter drove sustainability issues at the G20 Changemakers 20 Summit held in August. Chapter member, Adriana Marina from the organisation, Hecho por Nosotros y Animaná, hosted the lab “Catalysing change: Catalyst 2030 Latam Chapter: Driving change for a sustainable future’.
Catalyst 2030 LATAM Chapter members Luis Camargo from Opepa and Lina Torres from Movilizatorio joined in sharing experiences and ideas on sustainability and youth movements. The team stressed the importance of collaborations to promote sustainability in Latin America.

Colombian scholar leaders and innovators meet
LATAM Chapter members recently joined scholars who are leaders and innovators, breaking boundaries across a variety of professional fields. The event was organised to present the UK Chevening fellows network of Colombia and share information on Cheven which has 55,000 chevening fellows around the world.

Youth centered in Nepal’s sustainability and future plans
In celebration of the International Youth Day 2023, the Catalyst 2030 Nepal Chapter alongside its allies and partners lined up a series of activities adapting the United Nations’ theme ‘Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World’.
These included a tree-planting and clean-up programme, a dialogue with youth on social norms and values and a youth climate justice march. The key highlight was a national dialogue held at the National Youth Council in Bhaktapur, Nepal aimed at reviewing the 15th National Youth Plan and to address critical issues for the development of the 16th Plan. The event gathered more than 50 participants, including representatives from various federations, networks and youth organisations with the main goal to advance the youth agenda in the country.
The Nepal Chapter is at the forefront of helping create an enabling environment for young people to be active contributors to the Sustainable Development Goals.

Egypt Chapter holds first in-person meeting
The members of the Egypt Chapter met in-person for the first time in Cairo at the IECD center on the 23 August. Chapter coordinator and members and discussed the chapter’s objectives and prioritised next steps to help achieve them. The meeting helped everybody get to know each other better and connect on a personal level.

Celebrating Malaysia’s Independence Day
Around 25 Chapter members, together with the Chairperson and Board of the Kuala Lumpur City Council, district representatives and other systems change practitioners attended the gathering. The Malaysia Chapter Co-Chair, Faiz Kamaludin, welcomed participants and talked about the SDGs and sustainability. This was followed by a roundtable discussion with the policymakers and local officials.
It was truly a wonderful Merdaka Meet-Up for the chapter.

Indonesia Chapter launched
The Chapter’s interim Co-Chairs Dessy Aliandrina and Tommy Tjiptadjaja of SociopreneurID and Greenhope respectively, shared information about the Catalyst 2030 movement, and called on everyone to collaborate and co-create towards boosting the SDGs in the country and beyond.
The social change innovators who took part in the launch were treated to a special cultural dining experience prepared by one of the Chapter members, Javara Indigenous Indonesia. We look forward to the many connections and collaborations that will rise out of the Chapter!
CATALYST 2030 ASIA PACIFIC
APAC Chapter holds info sessions
Catalyst 2030 Asia Pacific held information sessions across the region in August to grow and improve representation in our ever thriving movement.
The APAC team hosted sessions where social innovators, who are not yet part of the movement, had the opportunity to share their impact stories, get connected with others and about Catalyst 2030. Sessions were held for Bangladesh, Thailand, the Philippines and Australasia/ Pacific countries.
Seeing the outcomes of these conversations, more of these will be organised in September targeting Central Asia, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea, Myanmar and Samoa. More details will be released in the coming weeks via Catalyst 2030 Asia Pacific’s social media channels.
