A world of neighbours – AWoN

A World of Neighbours (AWoN), a distinguished force in the humanitarian landscape. Our mission is centred around fostering conviviality in a diverse, humane, and welcoming Europe, with migration practitioners leading the charge. I. Embracing Unity: AWoN's Distinctive Approach AWoN’s commitment is highlighted by: Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges: AWoN stands as the sole multi-faith, cross-sectoral network of migration practitioners in Europe, serving as a beacon of unity in a polarised environment. Meeting Unmet Needs: AWoN is dedicated to addressing practitioners' unmet needs, ensuring their ability to work productively and sustainably. Actionable Research: The synergy between the Practitioners Network and the Academic Research Network results in research that informs decision-making. II. Empowering Change: AWoN Migration Practitioners in Action AWoN practitioners come from diverse backgrounds, drawn from both faith and secular worlds. As leaders in positive reception and accompaniment across 17 EU states, they play an integral role in forging conviviality and creating space for migrants, refugees, and asylum-seekers. Annually serving over 60,000 migrants, they collaborate with hundreds of diverse organizations at local, national, European, and international levels including faith-based organisations, secular actors such as universities and media, governmental organisations and various nonprofits and NGOs. III. Nurturing Collaboration: AWoN's Impactful Activities AWoN’s activities address the challenges faced by migration practitioners, providing support in psycho-social and mental health, project development, and skills enhancement. Since its inception in 2018 under the auspices of the Church of Sweden, AWoN has evolved into a non-profit corporation in the Netherlands, counting among its partners significant organisations such as Lutheran World Relief, HIAS, and Islamic Relief Worldwide. IV. Making a Tangible Difference: AWoN's Achievements in Unity AWoN has already impacted practitioner resilience, inter-religious dialogues, migrant wellbeing, community understanding, and social cohesion. Through workshops, talks, summits, and Home Groups, more than 2400 individuals have participated in our events. V. Expanding Horizons: AWoN's Vision for the Future To enhance our impact, AWoN plans to: Solidify safe spaces for Muslim, Jewish, and Christian dialogue, exchange and collaboration on migration issues. Double practitioners to 120, representing all EU states. Establish Local Practitioner networks in 10 EU countries, scaling up to all states. Expand professional support programs, networking and fundraising through AWoN digital platform. Cultivate "YoungAWoN." Collaborate on case studies and best practice for social inclusion and migrant settlement processes.
